Free Downloads 2009
Following the runaway success of last year's free downloads, we are once again providing them to support teachers and students in the 2009 Key Stage 3 English test.

(we realize that the UK SATs have been abandoned without any warning, but many schools have set their curriculum and are continuing to study them regardless of the recent announcements - so we're providing them for you, for free, as we originally intended).

This year, we're giving away teachers resources and study aids (as electronic documents) that cover the set sections of:
  • Romeo and Juliet
  • The Tempest
The sections themselves are brought to life in comic-book form, using our 4-text-level system of:
  • Original Text - The full Shakespeare script for the set sections
  • Plain Text - The set sections translated into plain English
  • Quick Text - With reduced dialogue for rapid, easier reading
  • No-Text - With empty speech balloons for you to fill in the dialogue
Each document puts the set sections into the context of the whole play.
In addition to the coverage of the set sections, we've also created teachers resources that include lesson plans and general activities to really get children involved in these texts.

And if THAT wasn't enough, we've again made them
FREE TO DOWNLOAD !!

We're so committed to the appreciation of Shakespeare and so proud of these resources that we didn't want a silly thing like "budget" to get in the way of education! We simply want to make a difference and allow anyone and everyone to enjoy the experience that is William Shakespeare...
For Teachers: For Students:
  • The illustrations help get the dialogue and action across to disaffected students
  • Resources offer ready-made lesson plans and activities
  • Set sections available in three text versions allow
  • inclusive teaching for a class of mixed abilities
  • Students can start with the Quick Text and work up to the Original Text version
  • Have students colour the pages in, or colour-code the speech bubbles
  • Have students write in the dialogue over the No-Text version
  • Resources are electronic, so can display them on a whiteboard for class study
  • Fun for children to study!
  • Start with the Quick Text version to get a rapid understanding of the set sections. Then progress onto the Plain Text version, and on to the Original Text of Shakespeare
  • Illustrations make it easier to visualize the characters and the events of the play
  • Dialogue is broken down into speech bubbles, making it easier to remember "who-says-what", aiding retention and understanding
  • Use the "No-Text" version for revision - write in the dialogue from memory

In no way do these downloads replace a study of the full text - but they really help - and for those crucial set sections, they are an invaluable aid to teachers and students alike!

(looking for last year's Free Downloads for Much Ado about Nothing, The Tempest and Richard III? they're here!!)
